Connemara National Park offers safe and easy walking trails that allow the whole family to participate and also includes some challenging tracks and trails specifically for those who are serious about their walking. Some of the Park’s mountains, namely Benbaun, Bencullagh, Benbrack and Muckanaght, are part of the famous Twelve Bens or Beanna Beola range. Spend a wonderful day outdoors and breathe in the pure, fresh Connemara country air. Come see the world-famous Connemara pony and a variety of native birdlife. Birds of prey and wild red deer can be seen occasionally too. The park has a wonderful playground for smaller children, which features a variety of wooden equipment including see-saws, slides, chin-up bars, tunnels, and playhouses. There are picnic tables with wonderful views of Diamond Hill. Entrance to the park is free.
This tour includes return public bus tickets from Galway city and a light lunch at the park.
From Galway city travel by public bus to the village of Letterfrack and then the entrance to the park. On arrival make your way to the visitor centre, where you can view an interactive exhibition on the Connemara landscape and chat with the informative and friendly park staff.
There are many ways to explore the park, choose to walk a variety of the following nature trails:
0.5km – Ellis Wood Nature Trail
1.5km – Sruffounboy Walk
3.0km – Lower Diamond Hill Walk
3.7km – Upper Diamond Hill Walk, which takes approximately three hours and is the longest walk and is rated a moderate to challenging walk. When you reach the top of the Diamond Hill, you will see stunning views across the national park to the Twelve Bens mountain range, the village Letterfrack, and the many islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
On the various walks you can discover the parks various fauna and flora.
Included in this self-guided tour is a voucher to have lunch at the Connemara National Park Tea Room, situated in the park grounds. Please present you voucher to receive lunch that includes a delicious homemade soup of the day, served with homemade brown bread, plus a freshly made sandwich (plain, toasted or a bap), with two fillings of your choice, tea or coffee and a chocolate bar.
After a wonderful day exploring this scenic national park, make you way back to the village, if time allows have a drink in one the local pubs (own cost), before catching the bus back to Galway city returning by 20h00.
