Enjoy Authentic Donegal Experiences
with Ireland Wild Escapes

Incredible, raw landscapes and some of Ireland’s best beaches make up Donegal, the County of the Gaels. Authentic Donegal experiences await, from electric biking in gorgeous Glenveagh National Park, to sea kayaking on Lough Swilly and deep-sea fishing off the spectacular Donegal coast.

A vibrant and cosmopolitan city

Donegal

The Wild Atlantic Way doesn’t get much wilder than Donegal, largely off the path well-trodden and home to some of the most dramatic coastal and inland landscapes in all of Ireland. The county even topped National Geographic Traveller’s ‘The Cool List’ in 2017, an annual roll call of the world’s best places to visit.

Donegal makes for the perfect starting point – or finishing point – for your Wild Atlantic Way adventure, Malin Head, Ireland’s most northerly point, signalling the beginning (or end) of the iconic, 2,500km coastal route.

Guided Tours

Experiences in
Donegal & Beyond

Donegal is well worth a visit, with fewer crowds and sights to rival any of those along the Wild Atlantic Way. Glenveagh is the second-largest national park in the country and offers some of the best hikes and cycling in Ireland; do not miss the hauntingly beautiful Glenveagh Castle, a grand 19th-century mansion and hunting lodge, in a gorgeous, remote mountain setting on the shores of Lough Veagh.

Our cycling options in Glenveagh National Park include a self-guided full-day tour, and a tour by electric bike.

Mount Errigal is recognisable as one of the most-photographed mountains in Ireland, its distinctive peak visible from many miles away. The Slieve League Cliffs are another Donegal highlight – at 2,000ft above sea level, these ancient cliffs are nearly three times as big as the Cliffs of Moher.

Sustainability Conscious Tours

Explore the Natural Beauty
of Donegal Town and County

Our tours of Donegal are hand-picked to reflect the county’s very best things to do, so it stands to reason that we offer Donegal experiences taking in the bucket-list Slieve League Cliffs – see Europe’s highest accessible sea cliffs by boat, and spotdolphins, porpoises, basking sharks and tuna, as you set sail from beautiful Killybegs Harbour.

Some of the best beaches in Ireland are to be found in Donegal, too. The county boast no less than 12 Blue Flag Beaches, and Bundoran here is one of the best places to surf on the Wild Atlantic Way. Donegal has over 100 beaches, including Portsalon, once voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by readers of The Observer magazine, and Bunbeg, home to the Bád Eddie shipwreck, immortalized in a U2 and Clanad video.

Here at Ireland Wild Escapes we go beyond the ordinary to offer complete destination immersion, and a guided heritage walking trail of Rathmullen, on Donegal’s breath-taking Fanad Peninsula is the perfect example of this. Meanwhile, our sea kayaking on Lough Swilly adventure takes in the incredible Portsalon sea caves – another one for your Donegal bucket list! Or, for more experienced kayakers, we offer a guided, 4-hour option – 7 Arches kayaking tour along Lough Swilly.
